How To: Maintain your Window Tint

Keep your window Tint looking good!

Like anything that you want maintained, giving some attention and care to the maintenance of your window film will go a long way.  Here are a couple of tips to help keep your window tint looking good for years to come.

Clean your windows regularly -
  • When you clean your windows avoid using abrasive cleaners or cleaning tools.  A microfiber cloth or soft sponge along with a proper cleaning solution will do the trick nicely.
  • The cleaning solution that you choose needs to be ammonia free!   Ammonia will start the process of breaking down the adhesive in your window film and can also lead to discoloration. If you are looking for a cost effective cleaner consider creating your own "poor mans" cleaning solution.   (1 part Isopropyl Alcohol to 3 parts water in a spray bottle should do the trick)
  • While durable overall, you still do not want to apply excessive heavy pressure to your windows while cleaning.
Avoid Scratching your windows
  • Retractable seat belts can easily scratch or ding your window film.   take care to release seat belts more slowly or carefully to avoid the belt buckle hitting the window in your vehicle.
  • Take care when loading your vehicle to assure that cargo items are not in position to hit or slam into windows once doors are closed.
Even with perfect maintenance over time it is possible that your window film may need to be replaced, but by using these tips you can help ensure that your tint looks great and fulfills its desired purpose in your vehicle and at your home.
